Workout, Get Chocolate Milk. And This Awesome Prize Pack.

So I have a little secret… I’ve started working out.

It all started with my gym’s New Year weight challenge. Like the dorky housewife I am, I signed up. I told everyone that it was because I wanted to get in shape. But the reality is that I wanted to lose the baby weight. Cause you know, my “babies” just turned five.

And while I did get in better shape, and found an awesome work out buddy and friend, I did not lose any weight.
In fact I was the only person in the entire challenge to gain weight.
And it wasn’t even muscle.

Not a quitter, I am giving it another go with The Columbia Slimdown Challenge. I have managed to take off the ten pounds I put on AFTER the lose it challenge (oh yeah, I figured that one pound might be lonely and it needed ten more to go with it.) Now I just need to tackle the twenty five more pounds of baby weight.

I’ve found the key is changing my diet. Who knew? Kidding. I knew. I just chose to ignore it. Luckily, the diet change has been made easier by this awesome fitness pack The Midwest Dairy Council sent me. The Get Moo-ving Pack fitness pack (valued at $100) provided me with all the essentials for getting fit, including an iTunes gift card, a Cuisinart hand blender, and awesome mix cup, and Dairy Makes Sense wicking gear.

Since receiving it, and reading the news about chocolate milk being the perfect drink after a hard workout, I have become a smoothie maniac. I mean, what could be easier? I mix together chocolate milk, frozen fruit, and some protein powder and instantly have a healthy, delicious post workout snack. Research published in the International Journal of Sports Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism on young adults showed that chocolate milk is twice as effective as commercial sports drinks to refuel exhausted muscles. And it’s not full of artificial dyes, etc. And I get to support my local dairy farmers. Winning.

I’ve never made my own smoothie before but I had one today while we were out. It had blueberries and bananas in it and it was amazing! Not a combo I’d usually think of it but it was so wonderful and refreshing on this hot day. I’d love to make my own.

  5. My favorite smoothie has reduced fat Oreo cookies, milk, vanilla protein powder and a touch of vanilla extract.. It is so darn delish I actually usually have it for dessert 🙂

  6. 1 cup lactose-free plain kefir
    1 bag organic frozen blueberries
    1 banana
1 scoop of brown rice protein powder (chocolate)

To make it extra frosty, use a frozen banana. This is a regular breakfast for me.

  7. This sounds great! And now I have to go and buy a mixer, we sold ours when we moved out of New York… But my favorite smoothie is made with frozen Yoplait pina colada yoghurt, pineapples and milk!

  9. I don’t have a smoothie recipe, although our peach tree is going crazy right now so I have been looking into peach smoothies lately. My favorite healthy drink is water with a splash of grapefruit juice.
