Snapshot : What’s in my Blog Conference Bag?

What to Carry at a Blog Conference

Blog conference season is in full swing. And even if you are a conference veteran (my trade show peeps, give me a holla), blog conferences are a whole different ballgame. And if you are a newbie, you are probably thinking what the hell did I get myself into.

I have a few posts that will help you (here, here, and here) but I also wanted to share a quick tip with you. So here’s what I carry to a blog conference…

1. The Bag: a shoulder bag is a must, a cross body is better for a mulitday conference. For Bloggy Boot Camp, I carried the above (a thrifted Louis Vuitton tote, $6 ya’all) tote. Because it is big enough to fit my Chromebook and when I am going to be in one place all day, I want it.

2. Laptop/tablet: great for knocking out quick ideas. I start at least ten draft posts during a conference. Also, a must for running HootSuite.

3. Phone: Not only to keep up in my real life but also to send out quick tweets on 4g because conference wifi is SLOW.

4. Backup charger: power strips are great friend makers but they tie you to one place so you need mobile backup too. I follow the ABC (Always Be Charging) rule, so if i have room I carry a powerstick and a small USB/Outlet plug.

5. Notebook and pen: Always. I take copious notes and then plug the info in. It helps it sink into your brain. And you have paper to write down your info and a pen to write notes on the back of business cards (not doing that? Start now!)

6. Personal: breath mints/spray, wallet, and lipstick.

  1. I keep the same things in my bag, but I also always make sure I have lots of extra business cards and snacks!

    • I need to edit to add that I always have a protein bar or fruit strip! I totally forgot my business cards today. Oy!

  2. I would love to attend a conference. Definitely on the list for next year

    • every blogger should attend a conference! There is tons of insight and even more connections. I will be posting my top ten insights from Bloggy Boot Camp on Tuesday so check back for some tips!

  3. Man, I’d love to attend a blog conference someday. I wonder if people ever bring their babies? lol, I just have a hard time thinking about being away from him all night. One day.

  4. The ABC rule is a good one. I don’t use it, and have found myself many a time wishing I did!

  5. I am planning on attending a couple of conferences and the things you have in your bag are right on. I couldn’t believe how slow conference wifi is!

  6. Amy Desrosiers says:

Awesome I needed these tips for my upcoming retreat this May. I will be sure to take all of the above.

  7. Business cards are a must for me! Love the idea of bringing an extra charger.

  8. Those are some great tips for Blog conference. I have not been to one yet but I plan to go in the future.

  9. Of my six years of blogging I have not attended a conference. Sounds like fun!

  10. Great tips for those who go to conferences I’ve never been to one but if I ever get the chance i’ll be prepared.

  11. Those are great tips, especially for those that are new to conferences. I have never been to one and have no intensions to go. I did register for one that was just a day conference but my youngest gave me those big brown eyes pleading with me to stay home with him and well I skipped the conference to stay home and play. Maybe when my kids are older and I will not miss as much being away from them.

  12. I wish I could go to one of the conferences! It would be awesome!

  13. A $6 LV? Really?!? The only ones that I find are fake and, for some reason, $20+. Great find!!
Don’t forget your business cards and have FUN at the conference! I love meeting new people and tend to get caught up with that more than going to the sessions. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  14. A blog bag is a great idea when attending a blog conference. I hope one day I will be able to attend and when I do, I will definitely pack a blog bag.

  15. A backup charger is a definite must when it comes to attending blogging conferences. You never know when your battery will die and you will find yourself without an available outlet to recharge.

  16. These are all great items to keep in your blog bag. Definitely the backup charger, I always forget that!

  17. Great tips! Preparation and organization are key for these sorts of conferences. I wish I could attend but they are so far away. ๐Ÿ™

  18. Sad, but I’ve never been to a blog conference. I’ve been to other ones, but not one for blogging. Some day, some day!

  19. Thanks for the tips! I have these essentials for writer conferences too. You could never be too prepared!

  20. Thanks for sharing us these – I don’t bring a lappy since I don’t like bringing heavy things, lol – but these are awesome list – very essential, indeed!
