About MightyNest:

Founded by two parents, MightyNest is an online store, resource center, and community dedicated to helping parents create healthy, safe homes. Their mission is to give families the ability to research, get advice, and buy natural, non-toxic products all in one place.

From kitchenware to skin care, MightyNest‘s safety experts have built the web’s broadest selection of products that are free from known toxic ingredients such as BPA, PVC, Phthalates, Lead, Melamine, Formaldehyde, Parabens, and more.

Their goal is to make people feel empowered to make changes in their lives, whether large or small.

We try to lead a pretty “green” lifestyle here in the Guavalicious Household. But there is always room for improvement! I used the Mighty Nest Healthy Home Makeover board as a jumping point for my own Pinterest board. Some of the things I want to add are cast iron pans and dryer balls. I also added a few of our longtime favorites like stackable glass bowls and the Plan Toy Solid Wood Drum.

Monday Giveaway : Parenting With Crappy Pictures

Want to be LMAO IRL?
Then enter to win a copy of Amber Dusick’s book Parenting: Illustrated with Crappy Pictures which was just released (congrats Amber!)

These stores will make you laugh while you wince in recognition. As long as you are a parent. And if you aren’t, well you probably pick up a copy just in case you become one. It will let you know what you are in for. This book would be a bad ass baby shower gift. Or even an even better “you survived the first year” gift for the parents on a child’s first birthday. Do as I do, and include a bottle.

Seriously, I was laughing and recognition as I read every word.

Amber, who’s been a Twitter friend for a while, captures just how craptastic parenting can be. It’s no wonder PARENTING: ILLUSTRATED WITH CRAPPY PICTURES was named Funniest Mom Blog 2011 by Parents magazine and the Best Parenting Weblog in the 2012 Bloggie Awards.

Breakfast Blitz! Giveaway

Wow, what a day! It was my fourth day this week volunteering at the girls’ school. Though I joked on Twitter that I needed to get a hobby instead of hanging with the pint size crew every day, I really am grateful that I get to spend this time volunteering at their school. I know it is not something every parent has the time or luxury of doing!

But The Got Milk? Campaign has started a cool new program that allows every one to help out their schools from the comfort of their own home. Their Breakfast Blitz lets you support your local schools’ breakfast programs by entering UPC codes from every milk purchase now through February 17th. So run to your fridge right now and start entering those codes off the cartons you already.

The Breakfast project

If you need extra encouragement, by helping support your very local school breakfast program by entering UPCS you have the chance to win tickets to Super Bowl XLVIII! And even if you don’t have milk on hand, there is no purchase necessary to enter to win so you can still enter the Sweepstakes.

And you can start the winning right now by entering my giveaway for a Tackle Your Day breakfast basket…

Back to Basics : Wee Rock Eco-Rocking Toy Giveaway.

I’ve been in the midst of the purge of 2013 things in order to complete my resolution as soon as possible. I could take all year by just doing five things a day but these marathon purges are so much more satisfying. As I worked my way through the girls room, I noticed how many random small things they have. The clutter of them kills me but what kills me more is the money they represent, a dollar here and there adds up to a lot. If I could do it all over again, I would definitely spend more on less. Having a few well made toys is so much better than than having a pile of cheap things.

wee-rock-butonThere is something so classic and timeless about a rocking horse. They are an iconic symbol of childhood that people of all generations can relate to. Whether it’s sitting in a nursery or getting plenty of use in the playroom, a rocking horse can add a certain esthetic to the room.

Wee Rock Toy Co. has put a new spin on the classic rocking horse by making them sustainably in a convenient new design. Catherine O’Sullivan and Michael Galea, founders of Wee Rock Toy Co., used their architectural training to create a classic rocking horse that has only six pieces, allowing them to be shipped flat and assembled with no tools, no glue and no hardware!

These unique rockers are crafted from bamboo plywood – an ultra high quality, renewable and child-safe material. Unlike most plywood, the bamboo plywood used by Wee Rock Toy Co. uses a soy-based adhesive that emits zero VOCs and is a responsibly sourced renewable material. The bamboo parts are simply finished with a food-grade butcher-block conditioner. A huge bonus – all of these toys are cut, finished and packaged in the United States!

In addition to being sustainably made in the USA, the Wee Rock Toy Co. rockers are adorable, and currently available in five designs, including a classic horse, gorilla, elephant, rhino and giraffe. See the designs here. What kid wouldn’t want one of those?!

ELIZABETH ON ELEPHANT-SQUAREEach of these five designs has the same critical dimensions. The seat is 13″ off the ground and the assembled toy is approximately 13″ W x 33″ L – making the rockers ideal for kids from ages 18-48 months.

If you’ve been looking for the perfect rocker for your kiddo or if you need a unique baby shower gift idea, be sure to check out Wee Rock Toy Co!

The Giveaway

I’m excited to share that one lucky reader will win the Wee Rock Toy Co. rocker of their choice ($300 value)! This giveaway is open to the lower 48 US states only, ages 18+ and runs through February 7, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. EST. To enter, simply complete the Rafflecopter form below. Good luck!

Thursday Indulgence: Latte + Blogs = Love

This week has been a hard one. My body is not recovering well from its break from its usual routine. Though my tastebuds loved all the cheese I ate in Iowa, my bones and muscles are screaming for mercy. My usual morning routine of the gym followed by a hot shower has not been happening. So instead I have been coming straight home and comforting myself with something beyond my usual tea on the run.

My husband is mocking me, but after participating in the Latte Love Twitter party, I have been a bit obsessed with them. The mocking is because I am so not a coffee drinker. But these morning “fancy” drinks make me feel happy. And I get my milk in along with a little extra kick.

After doing my best to make my drink pretty (I can neither confirm nor deny that I have been using cupcake stencils and cocoa), I settle down in front of the computer to drink up while I read some of my favorite blogs. Here’s what on my favorites list these days. It’s my own personal “Morning Latte Makes My Breakfast Better” reading list.

Flora and Fauna: Her pictures of Fall make me want to run away to my own little cabin in the mountains!
Lag Liv: A longtime favorite of mine, Ms. Lag Liv is the best kind of blog in my world, just a straight forward life story.
Terra the Bear: The best part of my Toyota trip last week was hanging out with Terra. She is a ray of sunshine and her blog always makes me smile.
Sweet Fine Day: Another longtime read… the pictures, the food, the honesty, the family. I love everything about this baker and graphic designer and their crazy life with two kids and a small business.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. I will be pinning more to my Latte Love board! Check it out for more of my morning reads. And leave a comment with your favorite blog. I would love to check it out.

Want to start your own latte tradtion (I hope you already have a blog reading tradition!)? The TheBreakfastProject.com is letting me host a giveaway for a Latte @ Home care package. To enter, just leave a comment with your favorite blog!
