Birthday Cake Cookies, For Any Day of the Year

Sometimes you have a tough day. Sometimes the only thing to do is make the world's simplest cookie recipe: cake mix cookies. Since my girls are obsessed with celebrating EVERYTHING with a birthday cake (Mother's Day, let's make a birthday cake... they are a little unclear on the concept), I invented the birthday cake cookie tradition. Now everyday can be your birthday, no candles required. Click through for the three step recipe! … [Read more...]

Fast Food Fridays : Roasted Spatch Chicken

Quickest way to get dinner on the table? Combine your oven with a cast iron pan filled with veggies and a spatch chicken. A what chicken you ask? Spatchcocking involves splitting and flattening the chicken. It exposes more skin so there is more crispy goodness for everyone. Your butcher will often do it for you; my Lucky's even sells them already oiled and herbed. But if you are feeling homestead-y, here is a great guide! It's as easy a 1, 2, 3... … [Read more...]

This is Where We Do It : America’s Farmers and the Food We Eat

This post was created in partnership with America's Farmers. All opinions are my own. Whew, just back from Atlanta and boy am I worn out. I think I have extravagance hangover. That comes from staying at the Ritz and being around so many contemporaries who are better dressed than you. And Atlanta itself. People there are GORGEOUS. Seriously, being in Buckhead was like being in a constant music video. It was very surreal. I found myself literally shocked by some of what the woman were wearing. And then I was shocked by me being shocked. It's official, I have turned into a Midwesterner. And I am totally cool with that. … [Read more...]

Fast Food Fridays: Gorton’s Artisan Line

If it isn't fish sticks then DON'T EVEN BOTHER. Enter Gorton's. Juice on the Go With Mott’s

A huge thank you to Mott’s for sending us their new fruit juice drinks to try and for sponsoring this post. Those mini bottle saves me from many a twin argument. It gets HOT when you are in a car for ten hours! Though I loved our time in Texas last week with my family, it’s good to be back home in good old Columbia, MO. It’s funny how quickly I have adjusted to small city life. Everything here is so accessible and now that the girls are older, I am ready to access it all. I am really looking forward to getting them out on the Katy Trail on their bike. We’re so close to a trail access now that I am thinking we can even start heading downtown on it to some of the free concerts and festivals. Of course that brings in a whole other level of prep: snacks and drinks that are easy to carry. As well as healthy enough to fuel the ride there and back, but tasty enough that my kids won’t be begging for concessions. … [Read more...]
