Go Big For the Big Game With Candy Ice Cream Cakes

The kitchen is where I get creative and I love it, especially when I get to get creative with dessert. This #BigGameTreats shop, with my desserts for the holiday that celebrates football as my friend's adorable daughter calls it, has been compensated by #CollectiveBias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. Be forewarned, you will want to make this easy cake ALL THE TIME. … [Read more...]

To Feingold or Not to Feingold

The Feingold Diet is occupying my mind these days. One of my focus areas on my list of resolutions and commitments is how we eat. But I wasn't expecting to concentrate on it so soon. Then I came to terms with the fact that at least one, and probably both, of my girls has ADHD. The Feingold Diet is supposed to curb many ADHD and ADD and even Autism behaviors. A friend of mine has used it with great success. At first I will all bandwagoned up and then I checked out the site and saw it's $70 for PDFs. I mean I get it. Websites don't pay for themselves and materials cost money and so on. Yet I am still having problems paying for something that I have so little understanding off. The main points seems to be avoiding artificial dyes (which we do) and preservatives (which we could be better about). Then there are things like getting rid of corn syrup, MSG, HVP, etc. The thing I was not familiar with was the elimination of salicylates (which occur naturally in foods like … [Read more...]

How to Not Cook Until the New Year with Yahoo DIY

Thank you Yahoo! for sponsoring this post. While this was a sponsored opportunity from Yahoo!, all content and opinions expressed here are my own. Ahhh, you're finally made it. Unless you are running to the mall for last minute gift ideas, today is the touchdown of the holidays. Hannukah has ended, the solstice has been celebrated, and Santa comes tonight. Now it's your time to chill out and relax. To really get your chillaxing on, step away from the stove and make the next few holiday meals stretch as long as possible. Instead of being like this... Become a fridge ninja, and presto, dinner is done! … [Read more...]

The Ultimate Football Feast

As you get ready for Thanksgiving this week, don't forget the other must have for family fun: football! I have many memories of poking around my grandparents farm, a different game on in every room. My dad and his siblings has every type of football pot possible going on and there were repeated consultations over squares on the betting sheet. It was a thrill to watch the score climb and the time countdown ever close to my winning square. Living in a college town has allowed me to capture some of the excitement of that post Thanksgiving football frenzy. The only problem is that so much of the fun revolves around tailgating. And while I love tailgating it never seems to work out. Mainly because we don't get up early enough. Or the kids are in a bad mood. Or the thought of finding a parking space makes me all nervous like. So when Sonic offered to send me a gift card for tailgating snacks, I brought the tailgate to us. Oh yeah, ALL THE SNACKS and ALL THE GAMES. And while Sonic is … [Read more...]

Eat, Drink, and Be Merry Gifts

When thinking holiday gifts, don't discount food and drinks! Edible gifts are great because they are meant to be enjoyed immediately, often inexpensive, and take up no room (once consumed.) Plus if the recipient doesn't love it, these gifts are easy to pass along. Here are ten of my favorites to give and get. … [Read more...]

Snackalicious Saturday : Harvest Snaps

This post was created in partnership with Harvest Snaps. I have been compensated for this post. However, all thoughts and opinions are my own. If you're anything like me, snack time is the worst time. My creativity is shot by the end of the day and I end up throwing random packages at my kids or trying to convince them that plain bread and a banana is totally a normal end of the day snack. Luckily, my friends are more on the ball than me and introduced me to Harvest Snaps. These addivtively crunchy snacks have saved my bacon more than once. And while they have yet to come out with a bacon flavor, it does seem like they have every other flavor covered. Check out some of my favorite out of the box choices... … [Read more...]

Wednesday Drinks : EPPA Sangria

Happy Wednesday! This week I am drinking EPPA Sangria while unpacking for BlogHer14 and packing for our EpicRoadTrip2014. EPPA sangria is the perfect light drink for summer evenings. When you have to spend a beautiful night inside in the laundry room, it's nice to have a little bit of sunshine in your hand. I got to experience the above at the Sangria and Yoga Pants Sundown Soiree that opened the BlogHer Conference in San Jose. What better way to ease yourself into a frenzy of learning and networking than drinking spritzers and wearing comfy clothes. All the details about it and more about EPPA below... … [Read more...]

Cooking With Books, Fictional Recipes Are Yummy

One of my goals is to cook more with my kids. I grew up watching my mom cook and turned into an awesome one myself (#humblebrag.) She didn't actually cook that much with me so I could just take my chances that the terror twins learn by osmosis like me. But that would defeat my goal of turning them into domestic servants by eight. So cooking with kids it is. Up first, Tiana Mac and Cheese! … [Read more...]

Fast Food Fridays : Michael Angelo’s

Fast food is never more tempting to me than in the summer. It just seems so much easier to just order a pizza at the pool or have the husband pick up something on the way home. Forget the family meal, it's more like shove some food in the kids' mouths before they go to sleep. We need more dinners like this... Especially since fast food is expensive now that the girls are eating less like birds and more like humans. And amazingly unhealthy. My husband recently told me the calorie total of my favorite fast food dinner and I shed a few tears. So when Michael Angelo's asked me if I would like to try their new family entrees for dinner, my answer was a resounding YES! … [Read more...]

Grill Out : Grilling Shortcuts

We are determined to grill out every weekend this summer. It's going to be a tight fit with all the other summer weekend things we want to do but fortunately I have short cuts. Today I am sharing two of my favorites: Ribs are the hidden secret of grill outs. You can pick up an awesome rack of smoked ribs from your favorite meatery and have them ready to serve in twenty minutes or so. The ones above are from Missouri local Burgers Smokehouse. I am obsessed with their hickory smoked ribs. they sent me some recently and we went through the rack in point two seconds. For guests, I like to cut up the smoked ribs on a platter. Side note: they are also fabulous for cocktail parties. Their sauced ones are awesome too. To warm up sauced ribs, place heavy duty foil on the low heat of the grill and let them sit for about fifteen minutes. Then take the whole piece of foil (with oven gloves on!) and slide onto a platter. Sliders are my other go to. They are way easier than cooking … [Read more...]
