Life List, Bucket List, To Do Before 40/Death List…

Today is the fifth day of the girls being in kindergarten and I am finally getting into a groove. I have been detoxing with a raw food diet, working on getting my new project up and going, and generally being a better homemaker/homeworker.

You know what is missing? Some fun!

Let’s face it, the first years of parenting are mainly drudgery. And while as the girls get older, I have been getting a bit more cheerful (the Paxil helped too), I still miss the zany, spontaneous me. So while I usually frown upon “life lists”, I do need some kind of list to keep me accountable to my goal of being more “me.”

So here is my “Bring Back the Fun Kate” List:

  1. Host a fondue party
  2. Do a family costume for Halloween one year
  3. Go to Paris for my 40th birthday
  4. Take the girls on an epic road trip from the Grand Canyon to Mount Rushmore
  5. Have a second honeymoon with my husband that involves nothing but laying around and being together
  6. Attend a drag bingo night
  7. Buy a scooter
  8. Take the girls to Australia and New Zealand
  9. Learn how to make my own sushi
  10. Ride in a hot air balloon
  11. Write a novel

I am sure this list will continue to grow!

What would be on your list? If you have a similar list, please link to it in the comments. I would love to check it out!

  1. I have a mental list and some of them written down. But my big thing is I want to run a 5k! I don’t know why, but I just do. I love your list though. I might “borrow” some of them. I hope you get back to the Kate you have been missing.

  2. I want to take a cross country road trip – and see all of Europe. ๐Ÿ™‚ I have hosted a few fondue parties. They are fun, but it takes a while to figure out the right temperature to cook the cheese unless you have a really good fondue pot (which I did not).

  3. I had drinks with a girlfriend last night and we were bemoaning the loss of a sense of self and how we need to get our groove back. She worked at the cool video store in Athens, GA so she kind of completes our holy trifecta of records-books-indie film vets. Of course, we’re both over 40 already so we’ve screwed that milestone up. Gotta get going on having more fun!

  4. I love your list!! I think I made a 40 Things About Me List when I turned 40. . .I always like these types of lists.

  5. I keep saying that I’m going to write a bucket list, but still haven’t done it. Your list is inspiring me to do it. I know that I want to make a cross country trip in an RV, visit Hawaii again and lean another language.

  6. Let me know how the fondue party goes ? I would love to write about one. They’re so much fun!

  7. I dig the list. Let’s also include a girls-only weekend escape that has nothing to do with conferences – the only goal is lazy girl time. ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. I have a list! But I love how your list is all about fun. Let us know as you complete each one.

  9. That list is awesome. Can’t wait to hear about which ones you do first!

  10. I am generally a Winter but your list makes Indian Summer sound great!

  11. I love this list! You’ve inspired me to think of a few of my own, including… learn how to make really good hummus and salsa, submit articles to magazines, take a trip to Paris with our good friends for my husband’s 40th bday, plant an awesome vegetable garden, master baking soft pretzels and wheat bread…

  12. I throw my support behind going to Paris! My husband and I went in May for our tenth anniversary. It was my 10th or 11th trip and his first. It’s a magical place. Before you go, I will want to give you all my recommendations.
