Forget Friendsgiving, I am all about Momsgiving. Friendsgiving is all the rage in the blogosphere but the thought of making another big meal? Pashaw. What I really want to do is hang out with my friends. After all, tis the season to be thankful and I am super grateful to have a supportive group of friends, especially during the hectic holiday season.
So I decided to have a parent playdate. Because we parents need to see our friends too!
Gathering together for a coffee date is a wonderful way to kick off the the first week of the season. We haven’t all scattered to the far ends of the country and none of us have our hands up turkeys yet. Sure we could all trot off to a festive red cup place but it is so much more relaxing to stay in the kitchen where the coffee refills are free and snoozing babies can be stuck in the corner.
Since this truly is a melding of the seasons (it’s hard to believe December starts in six days), I decided to make this a peppermint and pumpkin themed get together. I wanted to make it easy on my friends and on myself. So I pulled together pumpkin croissants made from crescent dough and put together a peppermint drink station where friends could easily concoct their favorite variation of hot drinks.
To really encourage friends to kick back, I like to set up a recharge station.
Less tech; more talking!
I can’t tell you how lovely it was to reconnect with friends. A good hour of chatting over coffee is a surefire stress release. I hope you get a chance to relax with friends this week too. It was so easy too! Check out my Google Plus story to see how I pulled it all together.
We don’t normally exchange gifts but I did want to send my friends off with a little something to remind them throughout the season that they are appreciated and loved. Especially since I can’t deliver a peppermint coffee anytime they need it! Instead, they got a peppermint stripe chapstick and a peppermint heart scarf. I tied mine on my purse to remind myself to take a break and appreciate all I have during the holiday craziness.
And even if you can’t get together with friends, take some time for yourself! Make yourself a nice cup of peppermint coffee (or your favorite, here are some fun ways to jazz up your java), a pastry treat, and relax with a favorite book or magazine.
